Comments on the results of Gene Xpert/mtb rif expectoration in diagnosing pulmonary tuberculosis at Hanoi Medical University Hospital

Abstract
Gene Xpert is one of the leading molecular biology techniques recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) for use in TB diagnosis today. Our study was conducted to evaluate the role of the Gene Xpert test in the diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis, especially in subjects whose sputum AFB test was negative. The descriptive cross-sectional study was performed on 1069 cases with symptoms or chest radiographs suspected of TB. Men and women accounted for equal proportions in the study. The common clinical symptoms were cough (81.7%), chest pain (21.5%), dyspnea (20.5%), fatigue (11.9%), fever (11%). Chest X-ray image of suspected tuberculosis accounted for 88.6%. AFB test direct in sputum were positive in 3% of patients. Gene Xpert MTB/RIF positive sputum test accounted for 7.6% of the total studies and accounted for 4.8% of the group with negative sputum AFB test.
