Abstract

Lower respiratory tract infections are one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, and etiological diagnosis helps guide treatment and management. Multiplex PCR is a new technique widely applied in the world to diagnose the cause of infection, but it is still quite new in Vietnam. Our study evaluated the etiology of lower respiratory tract infections by Multiplex PCR technique. A retrospective descriptive cluster of 22 patients with lower respiratory tract infections was performed concurrently with bacterial culture and PCR. The rate of bacterial culture was positive in 13.6% of patients, the rate of PCR was positive in 27.2% of patients.
