Tiểu cầu cô đặc và các chế phẩm của nó đã được ứng dụng trong nha khoa hơn ba thập kỉ nay. Các thế hệ sau của sợi huyết giàu tiểu cầu (PRF) được phát triển mang những đặc điểm tối ưu hơn, đặc biệt là i-PRF - sợi huyết giàu tiểu cầu dạng lỏng. Đặc điểm nổi bật của i-PRF là tốc độ và thời gian quay ly tâm thấp hơn, do đó, số lượng tế bào và các yếu tố tăng trưởng cũng cao hơn, hỗ trợ đẩy nhanh quá trình lành thương và tăng cường mạch máu. 214 bài báo về i-PRF và điều trị nha chu đã được tìm thấy trên các nguồn Pubmed, Embase và Google Scholar. 12 bài báo thoả tiêu chí lựa chọn và được chia thành 4 nhóm: báo cáo ca, thử nghiệm trên động vật, thử nghiệm lâm sàng điều trị không phẫu thuật và phẫu thuật. Thử nghiệm trên động vật cho kết quả không khác biệt khi kết hợp i-PRF. Tuy nhiên, thử nghiệm lâm sàng cho thấy giảm PPD và CAL có ý nghĩa. Thử nghiệm lâm sàng phẫu thuật cho thấy tiềm năng của i-PRF dạng xương dính khi kết hợp với xương ghép. I-PRF là một vật liệu tiềm năng và hứa hẹn khả năng tái tạo mô, nhất là mô nha chu.
