Abstract

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the supporting effects on peripheral neuropathy complications of type 2 diabetes by electro-acupuncture and acupressure massage according to traditional medicine and survey of various factors related to the treatment outcome. The study was designed as a controlled interventional clinical trial, comparing results before and after treatment. 62 patients diagnosed with diabetic peripheral neuropathy were divided into 2 groups, according to the method of homogenous pairing of the fasting blood sugar level and the degree of peripheral nerve injury. The study group was prescribed 2 tablets of Neurontin Cap 300mg per day combined with electro-acupuncture and acupressure massage; the control group was prescribed 2 tablets of Neurontin Cap 300mg per day only; the duration of treatment was 15 days. The results showed that the symptoms of the experimental group with qi and blood deficiency pattern improved significantly when compared with the control group (p < 0.05). The Patient’s age, disease duration, L5- S1 lesions and HbA1C level < 7% will affect the treatment outcome.
