7. The effect of acupoint catgut embedding therapy on treating allergic rhinitis

Abstract
Acupoint catgut embedding therapy is non – drug treatment method. This study was carried out to explore the effect of this therapy for treating allergic rhinitis and its side effects. 60 patients were divided into 2 groups: the study group used acupoint catgut embedding and the control group used Loratadin. This study was designed as a controlled clinical trial. After 7 days treatment, acupoint catgut embedding improved the physical (sneeze, itchy nose and runny nose) and functional symptoms better than the control group (p < 0,05). There were 3 patients with swelling at acupoint site but was spontaneously resolved after 1 – 3 days, 6 patients experienced dry mouth and the symptoms resolved on their own after discontinuing drug. After 30 days, the number of relapses in 2 groups was not statistically significant but the experimental group had 40% of patients needed treatment while the control group was 76,7% (p < 0,05). Therefore, Acupoint catgut embedding therapy had good effects on improving symtoms in patients with allergic rhinitis.
