Abstract

Globally, the incidence of 7th Nerve Palsy due to cold is about 20 - 30 out of 100.000 person per year, mostly prevalent between 15 to 40 years old. This research was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of electroacupuncture with inserted needle subcutaneously in treating 7th Nerve Palsy due to cold. 60 patients diagnosed with peripheral 7th Nerve Palsy, were divided into 2 groups: electroaccupuncture with inserted needle subcutaneously combined with accupressure massage and basic electroacupuncture with acupressure massage. Electroacupuncture with inserted needle subcutaneously combined accupressure massage group showed significant improvement in motor function at the forehead and the eyes region, the average points of FNGs and the average duration of treatment comparing to basic electropuncture and acupressure massage group (p < 0.05). The result showed that the levels of paralysis measured by FNGs improved significantly after the treatment comparing to the baseline in both 2 groups (p < 0.05). We did not find any side effects of electroacupuncture with inserted needle subcutaneously group in treating 7th Nerve Palsy due to cold
