Abstract

Bleomycin is an anticancer antibiotic derived from Streptomyces Verticillus. Cutaneous toxicities are less common than pulmonary side effects. Flagellate erythema is a rare rash but specific for Bleomycin treatment with an incidence rate of approximately 8 - 22%. A 20-year-old female patient was admitted to hospital with enlarged cervical lympho nodes, fever and weight loss. The patient was diagnosed as stage IVBS Hodgkin Lymphoma (liver, spleen, bone, abdominal lymph nodes) and treated with ABVD regimen. After 2 cycles, she complained of hyperpigmented lesions on the her back and thighs. A diagnosis of Bleomycin-induced flagellate erythema was established and consequently, bleomycin was withheld from the treatment regimen. Bleomycin-induced flagellate erythema is a rare side effect. Early detection of Bleomycin skin side effects helps clinicians develop appropriate treatment strategies for patients.
