Abstract

Periarthritis of the shoulder is a disease that damages the soft tissues around the shoulder joint including tendons, muscles, ligaments and capsule. This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of eye acupuncture, electroacupuncture and acupressure - massage in relieving pain, improving the range of motion and daily living function in patients with simple shoulder periarthritis. 60 patients were enrolled in this controlled clinical interventional study. After 14 days of treatment, the level of pain relief, improvement of range of motion and daily living function of the study group experienced was statistically significant compared to the control group, with p < 0.05. This result shows that, the combination of eye acupuncture with electroacupuncture and acupressure - massage was more effective in reducing pain, improving range of motion and daily living function on patients with simple shoulder periarthritis than electroacupuncture and acupressure – massage alone.
