Abstract

Neonatal compartment syndrome is a rare condition characterized by progressive ischemia and tissue necrosis of the affected limb, detected at birth or postnatal.. Risk factors for neonatal compartment syndrome include hypercoagulability or trauma, but the exact cause is not fully understood. Early recognition of clinical features and prompt surgical intervention can provide a good prognosis. In addition, because the syndrome is rare, it is easy to misdiagnose. The classic manifestations of this syndrome are swelling of the extremities accompanied by various skin lesions. We report a 2-day-old infant with compartment syndrome, which assumed to be caused by infusion-related brachial artery tear. The child underwent emergency surgery and recovered to normal after surgery.
