Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the anti-cancer effect of the measles virus vaccine on immunodeficient mice bearing human lung tumors (H460 cell line). The measles vaccine (MeV) was isolated from the Priorix vaccine (Glaxosmith Kline, UK). Twenty nude mice, USA, aged six to eight week-old, were injected subcutaneously into hind thighs with 106 H460 cells (ATCC, USA). When the tumor size reached 50 - 70 mm3 (post-transplant of ten days), the mice were divided randomly into two groups (10 mice/group). The treatment group was injected directly into the tumors by MeV with a dose of 107 CFU/mouse twice weekly for three weeks, and the control group was injected into the tumors by PBS. The virus-treated group had a smaller volume of tumors, a longer survival time, and a lower mortality rate than the control group (p < 0.05). The results indicated that MeV had anti-cancer efficacy against human lung cancer on immunodeficient mouse model bearing xenograft tumors.
