Abstract

This study aimed to assess the efficiency of autologous fibrin glue for conjuntival graft adherance in primary pterygium surgery. This prospective interventional study was conducte in series of 45 eyes with primary pterygium grade II. On the operation day, fibrinogen and thrombin were prepared from the patients’own blood. A 1:1 ratio of fibrinogen and thrombin solution was applied for attachment the conjuntival autograft. After surgery, graft adherence, pain, surgical time and recurences were assessed. The results showed conjuntival grafts were adhered in 43/45 eyes (95,6%), conjuntival autograft were appropriately attached in 32/45 eyes (71.11%), and 2/45 eyes had graft dehiscence. In day after surgery, ocular pain was recorded as middle grade in 37 eyes (86%). The average time of surgery was 28.5 ± 2.7 minutes. Surgery was successful in 86% cases after 3 months and no reccurence case was found 10 months follow-up. In conclusion, autologous fibrin glue is a practical, simple, safe and effective option for graft fixation in pterygium surgery.
