34. Oral health care knowledge, attitudes and practices of Hoai Thanh secondary school students, Binh Dinh, 2019

Abstract
The study was conducted to assess the knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) of oral health care of students at Hoai Thanh Secondary School, Binh Dinh. A cross-sectional descriptive study of 760 students in November 2019. Data were collected by indirect interview through questionnaires. Out of a total of 760 students participating in the study, 331 students (43.6%) have proper knowledge, 538 students (70.8%) have a positive attitude, and 238 students (31.3%) had good practice in oral health care. Compared with male students, female students practiced worse (OR = 0.16; p < 0.001). Compared with grade 6, grade 8 and grade 9 have better knowledge (OR = 1.55 and 1.71; p < 0.05, respectively), however, grade 9 practiced worse (OR = 0.61; p < 0.05). The students achieved the attitude 2.5 times and the practice 1.78 times higher (p < 0.001) than the students achieved knowledge. Most students have good attitudes, but the percentage of students with good oral health care knowledge and practices is not high. Families, schools and other stakeholders need interventions to improve students’ knowledge and practice of oral health care.
