22. BK virus infection in kidney transplant patients of Bach Mai Hospital
Main Article Content
Abstract
BK virus and BK virus nephropathy can lead to graft failure in kidney transplant. However, in clinical settings, monitoring and detecting BK virus infection remains a challenge. This study described the clinical characteristics of BK virus infection and explored factors associated with infection in patients who had kidney transplantation with follow-up visits at Bach Mai Hospital from January 2018 to June 2022. Among the 81 patients in the study, 31 had BK virus infection (38.3%), of which, there were 20 patients with simple BK viruria (24.7%) and 11 patients with viremia (14.6%). There were 4/28 (14.3%) patients whose kidney biopsy confirmed BK virus nephropathy. BK virus infection was related to the use of Tacrolimus with dose higher than 7 ng/ml, low glomerular filtration rate, and graft failure.
