Abstract

Cerebellopontine angle (CPA) meningiomas are the second most frequent tumors of the cerebellopontine angle, accounting for 6-15% of all CPA tumors. Total tumor removal is a major challenge. This study evaluated the results of CPA meningiomas surgeryin 36 patients with CPA meningiomas, who were treated with surgery using retrosigmoid approach from August 2020 to August 2022 at Viet Duc Hospital. The mean age was 56.1 and the female: male ratio was 3.5:1. Meningioma grade I lesions accounted for 91.7% and grade II accounted for 8.7%. The most common symptoms were headache (69.4%), vertigo (44.4%), ataxia (36.1%), and hearing loss (19.4%). Most tumors (91%) were attached to the posterior of the petrous part of the temporal bone. Total tumor removal was done in 69% of the patients. There was no postoperative mortality. The complication rate is less than 10%. Facial nerve function was preserved in 72% of the cases. The retrosigmoid approach is a safe surgical approach to remove CPA meningiomas. This approach can maximize tumor removal and preserve facial nerve function with low rate of postoperative complication.
