Abstract

The autism spectrum disorder is a complex developmental disorder with alarmingly increasing rates. Since 2013, the DSM-5 criteria has been used, the rate of children with the disorder has been rising up to 2.27% in 2021. Through the examination of 3018 children aged 24 - 72 months at child care facilities we found that the disorder rate is 1.9%, the level of children who need support from 1 to 3 are respectively 43.1%, 36.2% and 20.7%. The rate of ASD in boys is 3.53 times higher than in comparison with girls (p < 0.001), the more frequent of pesticide exposure during pregnancy the children are, the higher the prevalence of ASD they get (p < 0.001). Family history of genetic defects/diseases increases the rate of ASD in children by 2.85 times (p = 0.041) and mothers who suffer more stress during pregnancy have a higher rate of ASD with 3.11 times (p = 0.008). This rate is also 2.19 times higher in children with labor duration of more than 24 hours (p = 0.044); 2.1 times (p = 0.018) in premature or old-term babies; 1.89 times (p = 0.019) in babies with neonatal jaundice and 5.14 times higher (p = 0.002) in babies with jaundice asphyxia at birth.
