Abstract

The study aimed to understand the value of the Ross procedure in young adult patients with aortic valve replacement through a report of a serie of cases and literature review. The sample included 3 cases of the Ross procedure in young patients conducted at the Viet Nam National Heart Institute, Bach Mai Hospital. 1 case of severe aortic stenosis with complicated circulatory arrest and successful resuscitation, 2 cases of severe aortic regurgitation due to infective endocarditis. Autologous pulmonary valve was used to replace the aortic valve and homograft valve to replace the pulmonary valve for all patients. The average time of aortic clamp and cardiopulmonary bypass is 104.3 and 146.7 min, respectively. There were no postoperative complications. At 12 - 18 months of follow-up, the patients returned to normal life without the need of anticoagulation. The aortic valve and pulmonary valve homograft function well. We suggest that the Ross procedure may be a good solution for young patients who need an aortic valve replacement.
