5. Genome sequences of sars-cov-2 Alpha and Delta variants in Covid-19 patient treatment in The National Hospital for Tropical diseases
Main Article Content
Abstract
Sars-Cov-2 mutates continuously, resulting in new variants that spread quickly, reducing vaccine effectiveness and diagnosis. There were numerous variants with varying mutation frequencies, with Alpha and Delta causing global COVID-19 outbreaks between 2020 and 2021. Many mutations in the S gene are found in lineage B.1.1.7 (Alpha) and AY.57, B.1.617.2 (Delta), increasing viral load and spreading rate. The aim of the study is to characterize the genome of COVID-19 patients treated at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases. The findings shown that both variants have mutations in major genes, but the majority of them differ in nucleotide positions. Furthermore, common mutations in both variants exist, including G28881A/T (R203K/M) (N gene), C14408T (P314L) (ORF1b gene), A23403G (D614G), and C23604A (P681H) (S gene). Despite differences in multiple mutation sites, the two variants share four common mutations in the N, ORF1b, and S genes.
