27. Eating habits and their associated factors among the students of two secondary schools in Hue city

Abstract

Research on 498 secondary school students in Hue city from May to December 2022 to investigate eating behavior in the last seven days based on a self-constructed questionnaire. The results indicated that 56.5% of students had at least three unhealthy eating behaviors. The most common were eating less vegetables (55.2%), less fruit (51.2%), drinking soft drinks with high-quality gas more than three times/week (46.4%), do not eat breakfast often (39.0%), and often eating fast food (38.8%), and do not drinking milk daily (38.2%). Some factors related to children’s eating behavior included gender, family economy, mother’s education level, physical activity, night sleep time, internet usage time/day, and family interest. These findings show that students’ unhealthy eating behaviors are very common. Therefore, cooperation between the school and the family is crucial to ensure the children’s best nutrition.
