Abstract

Implementation of Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) recommendations in asthma management and prevention remains a challenge in many countries including Vietnam. We investigate Vietnamese physicians’ behaviors in treatment  for asthma management and how their current clinical practices correlate with recent GINA recommendations by using a standardized questionnaire. Results: From the physicians’ perspectives, their main treatment goals were symptom control and overall control for mild asthma, and exacerbation reduction for moderate-severe asthma. Most physicians chose regular ICS-containing regimens as a preferred maintenance treatment option for mild and moderate asthma.  MART was aware by most physicians, however, correct prescribing rates for MART remained low. Although the personalized treatment recommended by GINA and national guidelines have been implemented in Vietnam, further training on asthma guidelines for physicians is necessary to improve the  accuracy of treatment options.
