Main Article Content
Abstract
Evaluation of the efficacy of submental endotracheal intubation method in maxillofacial trauma surgery. Descriptive study on 31 patients with maxillofacial injuries who were selected for submental intubation at the National Hospital of Odonto - Stomatology from January 2022 to November 2022. Evaluation on the criteria of surgical characteristics, time of intubation, percentage of patients with extubation, complications of the method. The results showed that the mean age of the patients was 30.13 ± 13.99 years old, the proportion of male patients (80.65%) was significantly higher (p = 0.001) than female (19.35%), the rate patients with ethmoid complex (58.06%) were significantly higher (p = 0.008) than with Lefort III (29.03%), two jaw and nasal main bone (12.91%), the average intubation time was 5.61 ± 0.44 minutes, 3.22% of the patients with extubation when submental endotracheal intubation and 3.22% when returned into the mouth, 6.45% of the patients had subcutaneous venous bleeding when at the path. Thus, submental endotracheal intubation is a useful method in cases of maxillofacial trauma surgery requiring intraoperative operative control of the dental occlusion and can replace tracheostomy.
