Abstract

This is a descriptive study on 26 patients with 34 helix keloids operated from June 2021 to June 2022 at Bach Mai Hospital and Hanoi Medical University Hospital to evaluate the results of plastic surgery to treat helixear keloids caused by ear piercing. All patients were females, the age were 21.3 ± 4.5 years old on average. Most of the defects were closed directly (64.7%), other cases required using local flaps or skin graft. Results at 6 months postoperated showed that Kyoto scar score decreased from 6.8 to 0.8. 75% of keloids achieved exellent and good results. The history of recurrent keloids and the size of the keloid could be considered as predictors to the outcomes. Plastic surgery to treat piercing ear keloid by excision and instant reconstruction based on the reconstructive ladder gave positive results.
