Abstract

Random clinic trials and controlled single-blind study was conducted to compare the effects of levobupivacain and bupivacain on spinal anesthesia for cesarean section. 120 pregnant women are randomly divided into 2 groups, group B and group L, receiving 8mg bupivacaine combined with 30mcg fentanyl and 8mg levobupivacaine combined with 30mcg fentanyl respectively. The effects of sensory inhibition, motor inhibition, hemodynamic stability and undesirable effects (if any) were studied. The duration of time to reach skin sensation block to T6 in group B was 3.87 ± 1.17 minutes compared with group L 4.53 ± 2.05 minutes. The duration of time to reach motor block M1 level in group B was 2.83 ± 1.12 minutes compared to group L 5.33 ± 1.35 minutes. Pain relief time was prolonged in group B (304.77 ± 17.47 minutes) compared with group L (262.43 ± 47.01 minutes) (p < 0.05). The hemodynamic stability of group B was less than group L with the presence of the decreased blood pressure. This study showed that 8mg of levobupivacaine plus 30mcg of fentanyl in spinal anesthesia for cesarean section had a sensory and motor block effect comparable to 8mg of bupivacaine plus fentanyl, with a longer duration of onset with little effect on to hemodynamics.
