Abstract

The study was conducted on 156 patients with type 2 diabetes at the National Hospital of Endocrinology and Dong Da Hospital in 2020 - 2021 to estimate the status of periodontal disease and the necessity of periodontal treatment related to glucose control among patients with type 2 diabetes aged 35 - 55. The results showed that the proportion of patients with periodontal pockets was 65.7%, deep pockets accounted for 29.5%; each patient had 2.5/6 sextants with periodontal pockets (CPI 3 and CPI 4). The HbA1c group ≥ 7 had severe periodontal pockets 19.2 times higher than the HbA1c group < 7. All patients need periodontal treatment; 29.5% patients required complex treatment. Therefore, the combination of endocrinology with odontostomatology is important to prevent the complications of these diseases, reduce the risk of tooth loss and improve the quality of life for patients with type 2 diabetes.
