18. Single-incision laparoscopic surgery for the treatment of hirschsprung's disease in neonates

Abstract

Single-incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) has many advantages but is rarely applied in children. We assess the application of SILS in treating Hirschsprung's disease in neonates. We conducted a prospective study on patients aged  1 - 28 days old diagnosed with Hirschsprung's disease undergoing SILS at National Children's Hospital from January 2020 to December 2021. Twenty-three neonates with an average age of one month were surgically treated, the mean age was 22.3 ± 3.2 days (range: 17 - 28 days). The average operation time was 53.8 ± 11.9 minutes (range: 35 - 75 minutes), and the average postoperative hospital stay was 4.5 ± 1.1 days (range: 3 - 7 days). Complications include 4 cases of enterocolitis, 1 case of anastomotic stenosis, with   no mortality. In conclusion, SILS is safe and effective in treating Hirschsprung's disease in neonates.
