Abstract

This prospective cohort study was conducted to describe the prevalence of SARS-CoV2 reinfection among healthcare workers at Bac Ninh General Hospital and Nghe An Friendship General Hospital in 2022 - 2023 and the difference in cumulative incidence rate by demographic, occupational and history of vaccination between these two provincial hospitals. A total of 448 healthcare workers were followed up from June 2022 to February 2023. Findings indicated a high prevalence of SARS-CoV2 reinfection in 2 provincial hospitals at 11.16%. The cumulative incidence rate at Bac Ninh General Hospital is 2.5 times higher than that at Nghe An Friendship General Hospital (19.2% and 7.5% respectively). A high incidence rate was found among females, aged 23 - 35 group, married, and especially high among nurses, followed by physicians. There is a difference in reinfection proportion between 2 hospitals by exposure to COVID-19 patients, affluenza vaccination status, and the number of COVID-19 vaccine doses taken. As a result, it is necessary to develop flexible and appropriate preventive interventions for healthcare workers to improve the readiness of the Vietnamese health system to respond to pandemics.
