Abstract

“Cot thong Tue Tinh” liquid extract is a preparation extracted from 7 medicinal herbs including Siegesbeckia orientalis L., Angelica sinensis (Oliv.) Diels., Smilax glabra Roxb., Achyranthes Bidentata Blume, Cnetum montanum Mgf., Citrus reticulata Blanco, and Stephania dielsiana Y. C. Wu. The study aimed to evaluate the analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects of “Cot thong Tue Tinh” liquid extract. The analgesic effect was assessed based on three models: hot plate, tail-flick, and acetic acid-induced writhing on Swiss mice. The acute anti-inflammatory effect was evaluated using two models: carrageenin-induced paw edema and peritonitis in Wistar rats and the chronic anti-inflammatory effect was assessed on amian-induced granulomas in Swiss mice. As a result, “Cot thong Tue Tinh” at both doses of 12 g/kg/day and 24 g/kg/day showed a significant analgesic effect and chronic anti-inflammatory tendency in the models; “Cot thong Tue Tinh” at doses of 6 g/kg/day and 12 g/kg/day tended to have acute anti-inflammatory effects in Wistar rats. In conclusion, “Cot thong Tue Tinh” liquid extract has shown experimental analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects.
