Abstract

Neonatal thrombocytopenia (NTP) is a common disorder of several etiological factors, most often mild and self-limiting, and is common in premature infants or in intrauterine growth retardation. However, many cases of thrombocytopenia occur in neonates due to immune mechanisms, under the influence of antiplatelet alloantibodies or maternal antiplatelet autoantibodies transmitted through the placenta. We report two cases of neonates who were found to have thrombocytopenia, and both had positive antiplatelet antibody test. The patients were excluded from the causes of thrombocytopenia and met the diagnostic criteria for immune thrombocytopenia. In conclusion, in neonates with thrombocytopenia, it is necessary to investigate the immunological sources as well as other causes in order to confirm the diagnosis and choose the optimal treatment.
