Abstract

Acute ischemic stroke due to occlusion of basilar artery has clinical symptoms atypical in the early stages or rapidly manifest into severe clinical signs, threatening rapid death. Objective: Evaluate the treatment results of patients with cerebral infarction due to occlusion of the basilar artery without reperfusion treatment and analyze some factors affecting that outcome. Methods: this is a retrospective, descriptive study on 52 patients with acute ischemic stroke due to basilar artery occlusion without reperfusion treatment who were admitted at the Stroke Center of Bach Mai Hospital from December 2021 to March 1, 2023. Results: The mortality rate of patients, leaving severe sequelae was high (90.8%). Hospitalized patients with quadriplegia symptoms, and high NIHSS scores often have poor treatment outcomes. Conclusion: patients with acute ischemic stroke due to basilar artery occlusion without reperfusion treatment had poor treatment results with a mortality rate of 75%.
