Abstract

The case series study consisting of 32 patients was performed to evaluate the outcome of epilepsy surgery from January 2016 to June 2023 in children with focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) at the National Children's Hospital. Most patients with FCD were treatment-resistant epilepsy, accounting for 93.8% and 50% of patients had the onset of seizures before 1 year of age. The rate of patients with postoperative seizure freedom was 62.5% (Engel class I and class Ia), 25% of patients had significant improved seizure outcome (Engle class II and class III), 20% of patients achieved complete cessation of antiepileptic drugs treatment, 37.5% of patients were able to switch from polytherapy to monotherapy. Complete resection of epileptic dysplasia lesions accounted for 46.9%. Incomplete resection of focal cortical dysplasia is the predictor of poor postsurgical outcome.
