27. Some factors relating to the long-term pain relief of trigerminal neuralgia by alcoholic gasserian injection

Abstract

The study aimed to evaluate factors associated with the long-term results of treating trigeminal neuralgia by percutaneous 0.3ml absolute alcohol injection into the Gasser ganglion fossa under the guidance of DSA. Subjects included 148 patients; The pre-intervention VAS score was 7-10 (9.1 ± 0.8). The minimum post-intervention evaluation time was 6.4 months, and the maximum was 82.4 months (48.1 ± 17.9 months). As a result, 98% (145 cases) reached pain relief with VAS ≤ 6. Facial numbness (6.1%) and tinnitus (2%) were the only complications at post-intervention. of the Of the clinical, technical and complicated factors included in the multivariate analysis the only one factor associated with the pain relief success was the number of hospitalizations. The Kaplan-Meier curve shows the difference in the analgesic effect between the 1-course and 2-course treatment groups. The period to achieve adequate pain relief of the 1 - course treatment group was after 40 months and of the 2- course treatment group was more than 60 months; this difference was statistically significant (p = 0.021). Based on the result, long-term follow-up shows that the fewer the intervention sessions, the longer the pain relief effect occurs. Therefore, it shows a positive predictor of the intervention's effectiveness.
