Abstract

A cross-sectional study was conducted on a total of 74 ultrasound-guided biopsies performed in 69 children at the Pediatric Center of Bach Mai Hospital. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the distributions of histopathological patterns and the complications after the procedure. The common diagnoses after the biopsy were lupus nephritis (56.5%) and steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome (18.8%). 30.8% of lupus nephritis (LN) patients were classified into class II, 38.5 % in class III and 15.4% class IV . Among children who had steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome, minimal glomerular change was the most common pathological lesion, registered at 53.8%, followed by focal segmental glomerulosclerosis at 23.1%. 13.5% of patients experienced complications after biopsy. Bleeding complications – hematuria and hematoma- were recorded at 9.5% and 4.1%), respectively. Most of those complications occurred within the first 24 hours after the procedure, and only 2.7% of the patients with serious complications needed interventions.
