21. Clinical features of suicidal ideation in inpatients with recurrent depressive disorder

Abstract

Objective: describe characteristics of suicidal ideation in inpatients with recurrent depressive disorder. This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 81 inpatients treatment diagnosed with recurrent depressive disorder according to the criteria of ICD-10 (F33.xx) at the Institute of Mental Health from October 2022 to June 2023. Results: The average age of the study subjects was 50.2 ± 15.4 years old, of which 70.4% were female. 66.7% of patients with recurrent depressive disorder had suicidal ideation, most of the suicidal ideation was of a gradual nature, with a frequency of 2 to 5 times/week, and prevailed continuously for an entire week in both groups; suicidal ideation (SI) appeared at the beginning of the week for patients without psychotic symptoms, most commonly from 0 am to 6 am and 6 am to 12 pm; especially for patients with psychotic symptoms, the 12 am to 6 pm time frame was also prevalent (45.5%). The intensity of suicidal ideation is mostly moderate (40.7%), strong (33.3%) and the majority (72.2%) lasted for 1 hour or more.
