Abstract

Myasthenia gravis is a rare autoimmune disorder that can result in death. The genotypic role of the Human Leucocyte Antigen (HLA) system in myasthenia gravis is a growing topic of research interest in Vietnam. This study was conducted with 33 patients with myasthenia gravis at Can Tho General Hospital between September 2019 and December 2021. Analysis revealed 13 types of alleles in the HLA-DRB1 locus, with HLA-DRB1*12 (24.2%) being the most common. Patients with myasthenia gravis carrying the HLA-DRB1*13 genotype are at increased risk of elevated serum anti-acetylcholine receptor antibody levels (p = 0.031). There was a correlation between those with myasthenia gravis carrying the HLA-DRB1*10 genotype and moderate to severe disease severity. The results of this study emphasize the importance of proactive monitoring of the risk of disease progression in patients with these specific genotypes.
