Abstract

Recto-vestibular fistula is a rare disease in female among the anorectal malformations. There are many technique to treat this deformity, of which the Tsugawa technique is  applied at many pediatric surgery centers around the world. Therefore, we conducted this study  to evaluate the results of treatment of recto-vestibular fistula using Tsugawa technique in female with normal anus at the Vietnam National Children's Hospital from January 2013 to December 2022”. Research criteria include surgery age, surgery time, hospital days, postoperative complications and follow-up results. 34 patients were operated on using the Tsugawa technique. The average age of surgery is 50 ± 30 months old, the average surgery time is 40.9 ± 14.5 minutes. Initial lesions were mainly type II (58.8%). Among 4 patients  with recurent fistula (11.8%),  only 1 patient (3.0%)  had successful re-operation, 3 other patients had not had reoperation (8.8%). Evaluation of good results reached 91.2%, bad 8.8%. We suggest that Tsugawa technique to treat recto-vestibular fistula is safe and effective, even in cases of recurrent fistula.
