The direct hospitalization cost of a type 2 diabetic patient in district 6, Ho Chi Minh city

Abstract
The number of patients with diabetes has increased rapidly in many countries, including Vietnam. Not only does it cause critical complications and is life-threatening but the high cost of medical care is also a serious problem for the patient and the goverment. In District 6 hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, a case series was conducted on 522 in-patient type 2 diabetes of General Internal Medicine Department so as to determine the direct cost of an inpatient hospital stay in a local government hospital. The result showed that the average of costs was 2,081 ± 1,131 milions VND. Patient without healthcare insurance paid 1,6 milion VND more than insured patient.
