Abstract

Omental infarction, a rare cause of abdominal pain, has been reported in about 400 cases in the medical literature. Children constituted about 15% of all reported cases of omental infarction. Here, we present two pediatric cases that were admitted to our hospital because of acute abdominal pain unaccompanied by fever, abdominal wall reaction, or peritoneal induction. Following comprehensive testing and diagnostic imaging, abdominal computed tomography showed significant omental infiltration. Both patients were treated conservatively with fasting, parenteral nutrition, and antibiotics. In conclusion, omental infarction, though rare, should be considered as a potential cause of  abdominal pain in children. Conservative treatment is a viable approach to address this condition.
