27. Adherence situation and associated factors with ARV adherence among men have sex with men

Abstract
This cross-sectional descriptive study aimed to describe ARV treatment adherence and factors associated with adherence among 212 HIV infected men who have sex with men (MSM) at some outpatient clinics in Hanoi. The average age of the participants were 25.49 ± 6.32 years. The rate of optimal adherence to ARV was 45.28%. Multivariable logistic regression model showed that MSM with mild anxiety were significantly more likely to have suboptimal treatment adherence than those with normal anxiety levels (aOR = 2.70; 95%CI: 1.26 – 5.74). Additionally, for every 1 point increase in quality of life score, the odds of suboptimal compliance decreased by 14% (aOR = 0.86; 95%CI: 0.74 – 0.99). This study highlighted the concerning low rate of optimal ARV treatment among MSM. In order to improve ARV adherence among MSM in outpatient settings, it is necessary to implement interventions targeted to group with suboptimal ART adherence and those who had mental health disorders (anxiety) and low quality of life.
