Abstract

This study aimed to assess the relationship between frailty, as measured by Hospital Frailty Risk Score (HFRS), and length of hospital stay among older patients hospitalized with ACS. A cross-sectional analysis was conducted with 511 patients ≥ 60 years old hospitalized for ACS at the Cardiovascular Center, Thong Nhat Hospital, and the Cardiovascular Center, University Medical Center, Ho Chi Minh City from August to December 2022. The median length of stay was 12.7 ± 9.5 days, nearly 4 days higher than non-frail patients (p < 0.001). Frailty according to HFRS was an independent factor significantly associated with an almost 2-fold increase in the likelihood of prolonged hospitalization (OR = 1.80; 95%CI: 1.13 – 2.88; p = 0.014). Older hospitalized patients should be assessed early for frailty, not only for prognosis but also for guiding selection of appropriate care and treatment strategies.
