Abstract

Patients with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis may experience problems affecting their quality of life both physically and mentally. This study aimed to assess the health-related quality of life and associated factors in multidrug-resistant tuberculosis patients treated in the Programmatic Management of Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis Program in Vietnam. The health-related quality of life of patients was assessed through the SF-36v2 questionnaire. The mean health-related quality of life score after 6 months of treatment in the physical component was 44.2 ± 10.5, lower than the general population. The mental component summary was 49.8 ± 11.4, equivalent to the general population. In multivariate analysis, younger patients, males, those with middle school education, and high school education had higher mean physical component scores than their counterparts. Patients living with others had higher mean mental component scores than those living alone. These findings underscore the importance of not solely focusing on disease managment but also on monitoring adverse drug reactions, combining physiotherapy and functional rehabilitation approaches to enhance patients' physical health.
