26. Intervention to increase ARV adherence and improve the quality of life among homosexual male

Abstract

Randomized controlled clinical trial was conducted among men who have sex with men (MSM) at some clinics in Hanoi by interventions based on social networking Zalo, including sending media articles, short messages and make consultant calls. The study’s subject are to increase ARV adherence and improve the quality of life. The study participants had an average age of 25.5 ± 6.3 years old, 18.7% of MSM received support from a peer group, 46.7% of MSM had mild or higher anxiety levels. The results showed a significant difference in ARV treatment adherence and quality of life between the intervention group and the control group at 3 and 6 months (p-value < 0.05). The rate of high-level adherence to ART increased significantly in the intervention group from 42.1% to 53.4% after 3 months and 67.0% after 6 months, while the control group decreased from 48.6% to 36.7% after 3 months and 37.6% after 6 months. The score of quality of life among intervention group increased from 13.9 to 16.9 after 3 months and 17.1 after 6 months, with an increasing trend in most domains, except personal beliefs. The quality of life in control group did not change over time. These interventions can be considered as pilot study to extend on the different locals communities.
