Abstract

A retrospective cohort study was conducted using available data managed by Hanoi Center for Disease Control to describe several factors related to the mortality rate of COVID-19 patients recorded in Hanoi during the year of 2021. Survival analysis method and Cox regression modeling were employed to assess the relationship between mortality rate and various factors including: age, gender, comorbidity and COVID-19 vaccination status. The study results indicated that in 2021, Hanoi record 409 deaths among a total of 59,639 confirmed COVID-19 cases, resulting in a case fatality rate (CFR) of 0.69%. The factor of being male was not recognized as a factor increasing the risk of death, but age over 60 proved to be closely associated with the mortality of COVID-19 patients (HR = 19.64; 95%CI: 11.98 - 26.07). Having underlying medical conditions nearly doubled the risk of death (HR = 2.62; 95%CI: 1.21 - 2.30) while being fully vaccinated with two doses reduced the risk of death by 73% (HR = 0.27; 95%CI: 0.25 - 0.44).
