Abstract

Practical experience provides students an opportunity to learn, to have a realistic, multi-dimensional perspective as well as acquire life and professional experiences. This cross-sectional descriptive, quantitative, and qualitative research was conducted on 132 undergraduate nursing students at Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine who participated in the pandemic prevention and control at Ho Chi Minh City in 2021; the purpose of this study was to acquire a deep understanding of the lessons that students have learned from the activities. The results showed that the majority were female students (76.5%), the average time participating in the pandemic was 10.08 (± 7.79) weeks. Students expressed a positive perception of the lesson learned from experiencing the pandemic prevention and control with an overall average score of 4.09/5.0 (± 0.7). In addition to professional knowledge and skills, students have many learning opportunities, practical experiences, forming positive attitudes, compassion, professional values, developing teamwork skills and soft skills. We suggest that the Nursing training programs need to increase practical experience activities in the curiculumn.
