Abstract

The study aimed to evaluate the frailty syndrome according to the SEGA scale in elderly people with type 2 diabetes at the August 19 hospital. A cross-sectional descriptive study on 512 60 years old-patients diagnosed with diabetes treated at the 19-8 Hospital. Patients were interviewed according to the questionnaire to assess frailty syndrome status using the SEGA (Short Emergency Geriatric Assessment) scale, general information, characteristics of diabetes, complications of diabetes, and some other factors including geriatric syndrome. The proportion of patients with acceptable diabetes control with HbA1c ≤ 7.5% accounted for 74.4%. The proportion of patients with poor control with HbA1c > 8.5% accounted for 14.6%. The rate of frailty syndrome according to the SEGA scale was 27.5%, and severe frailty syndrome was 11.3%. There was a statistically significant relationship between nutritional status, daily functional function, daily functional function with tools, physical activity level, minimal mental state, depression, risk of fall muscle, Sarcopenia, and physical function with HCDBTT (p < 0.01). A large proportion of diabetic patients with frailty syndrome are screened according to the SEGA scale, which is an easy-to-use, objective, and highly applicable toolkit in routine clinical practice to early detect frailty syndrome in elderly diabetic patients.
