23. Knowledge and attitude of medical university students about organ donation and transplantation

Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate knowledge and attitudes towards organ donation and transplantation among students at University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hanoi National University. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 417 students at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hanoi National University from October 2023 to February 2024. The results showed that the majority of students had correct knowledge about the time frame and organs successfully transplanted for the first time (64.7% and 62.8% respectively), the age at which organs can be donated (78.2%), and the organs that have been successfully transplanted (83.7%). Most students are willing to donate organs after death (55.4%) and donate to relatives when they are critically ill (53.7%). The majority of students are willing to persuade relatives to donate organs (66.9%) and are willing to donate organs of relatives if they are brain dead (60.7%). Students at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hanoi National University have relatively good knowledge and positive attitudes towards organ donation and transplantation.
