Abstract

The study was conducted to investigate the characteristics of antinuclear antibodies (ANA) in COVID-19 patients during the acute phase using an indirect immunofluorescence technique. The study is a cross-sectional descriptive study of 100 research subjects with COVID-19 and 25 research subjects without COVID-19. Indirect immunofluorescence results showed that the positive ANA rate of the COVID-19 group in the acute stage was higher than the group without COVID-19 (27% vs. 8%); the common phenotype of the group with COVID-19 is the Speckled (44.4%) and Nucleolar (25.9%). At the time of admission, the rate of positive ANA in the group with severe COVID-19 tended to be higher when compared with the group with non-severe COVID-19, with rates of 32.5% versus 23.33%, respectively. The rate of positive ANA 2+ in the two groups is 10% and 1.67%, respectively, but the difference is not statistically significant.
