Abstract

The study was conducted to investigate the impact of pneumatic transport on the hemolysis index of blood specimens at Hanoi Medical University Hospital. The study is a cross-sectional descriptive study on 1663 blood specimens anticoagulated with Heparin. The results showed that, after the sampling process, the proportion of samples with index H ≥ 90, I ≥ 10 and L ≥ 150 were 0.1%, 0.1% and 0.7%, respectively. All samples are transported pneumatically or manually, ensuring the criteria of temperature, accuracy, safety, and no sample leakage. Pneumatic transport increases RBC rupture compared to manual transport. After transportation by the above two methods, the H index value of blood specimens increased on average to 6.38 ± 3.67 and 0.37 ± 0.18. These effects were similar in both the group with normal red blood cell size and the small red blood cell group. Pneumatic transport increased the proportion of samples with H index ≥ 90 from 0.13 % to 0.52%.
