Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the results of a multidomain intervention (physical; cognitive; social and management of metabolic and vascular risk factors) on the physical function of older people with dementia in nursing homes. This randomized controlled pilot study included 60 participants aged greater or equal to 60 years old, who were diagnosed with mild to moderate dementia (according to DSM 5 criteria),. Physical function was measured by hand grip strength test and 30 second test. At the baseline, the average age of the intervention group was 78.53 (7.44); the average age of the control group was 78.43 (8.81). After a 6-month intervention, the change in score of the intervention group compared to the control group on muscle strength score was 3.59 points (CI 95%: 1.29 - 8.47), 30-second score was 2.6 points (CI 95%: 1.2 - 4.01). Initial research results show a trend of improving physical function of people with dementia in nursing homes after receiving multidomain intervention.
