Abstract

Introduction: Percutaneous mitral valve repair intervention to treat mitral valve regurgitation are rapidly increasingly worldwide, but remains limited in Vietnam. The study aims to provide data on the clinical and paraclinical characteristics of the first cases undergoing the Mitraclip procedure in Vietnam. Patients and Methods: This cross - sectional study focused on the first 15 patients undergoing Mitraclip intervention at the Vietnam National Heart Institute, aiming to provide clinical and paraclinical characteristics of this group of this patient cohort. Results: The average age of the patients was 68.0 ± 7.4. All patients presented with symptoms of dyspnea NYHA II and above upon admission. The majority had multiple comorbidities, including hypertension (40.0%), coronary artery disease or history of PCI (26.7%), atrial fibrillation (26.7%), and chronic kidney disease (20.0%). Ultrasonography examination revealed severe mitral valve regurgitation (grade 4+) in all patients, while left ventricular systolic function remained preserved (average LVEF 60.0 ± 13.7% ). Degenerative valve disease was the primary cause of mitral regurgitation (80%). Most patients had an intermediate surgical risk according to the STS classification (mean STS risk score was 3.56 ± 3.9%). Conclusion: This is the first study in Vietnam on the characteristics of patients with mitral regurgitation who underwent Mitraclip procedure.
