30. Effects of Phuong Dong Dai Trang tablets on colitis model in experimental animals
Main Article Content
Abstract
Colitis is an increasingly common disease. Currently, scientists tend to find medicinal plants to treat this disease. Phuong Dong Dai Trang tablet includes: Hedychium coronarium Koenig, Coix lacryma-jobi, Dioscorea perssimilis, Cynara scolymus, Radix Paeoniae lactiflorea, Glochidion ericarpum Champ. The study was carried out to evaluate the effects of Phuong Dong Dai Trang on the acetic acid induced-colitis model in experimental animals. Wistar rats were divided into 5 groups given orally distilled water, mesalazine 560 mg/kg b.w/day, Phuong Dong Dai Trang at the doses of 540 mg/kg b.w/day and 1620 mg/kg b.w/day, respectively, for 5 days. Then rats in groups 2 to 5 were induced colitis by administering 1ml of 4% acetic acid solution into the colon. Our results showed that Phuong Dong Dai Trang at the dose of 540 mg/kg b.w/daysignificantly reduced the macroscopic and microscopic index on colitis model in rats while the dose of 1620 mg/kg b.w/day did not have a statistically significant difference compared with the model group. Conclusion: Phuong Dong Dai Trang at the dose of 540 mg/kg/b.w (equivalent to the intended human dose) reduced colitis damage in experimental model.
