Abstract
Cancer is considered one of the risk factors for ischemic stroke, leading to an increasing health burden, mortality, and disability among acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients. A cross-sectional study was conducted on AIS patients with cancer diseases at Bach Mai Stroke Center from January 2023 to March 2024 to describe the clinical and paraclinical characteristics and treatment outcomes of this group of patients. 87 patients (mean age 67.7 ± 11.7; median admission NIHSS score 5 (3 - 8)) were recruited. The three most common cancers were colon (16.1%), thyroid (14.9%), and lung cancer (12.6%). Hemiplegia (81.6%) and speech disturbance (71.3%) were the most prevalent clinical symptoms. Most patients had small, multifocal lesions on a brain CT or MRI. The median D-dimer value was 2.8 (1.12 - 4.10). 48.3% of patients got a good outcome (mRS 0-2). Factors associated with a good outcome included male sex, NIHSS score, and D-dimer levels.
